is the reason we're going through tough times. but let me tell you mitt romney from day one, job one will be to restore the american economy so people can purr shoe their dreams as they see fit by limited government and build capacity so people don't have to get in line and be dependent upon government. no one wants to do that. we want a society where the next generation has more opportunities than what we have. and the american dream is what this election is about. are we going to reverse the track we're on which is a false sense of economic security where we get in line and have the government solve our problems for us? as if that's ever worked in american history. or are we going to restore american greatness the way we know it works best to create jobs in a strategic way with a guy as president that will work to build solutions rather than just talking about things? i was governor of this state for eight years and i had to work with a lot of democrats but i had to work with a lot of republicans as well because they were in the majority the whole time. imagine what it would be lik
exactly what the president promised he would do four years ago and has failed to do on the economy and bringing people together. mitt romney can do it. he's done it in the private sector and as a chief executive at the state level. he can do it for america. and i think in wisconsin, iowa, ohio, we respect that and we want that from our leader. >> and one last quick one. i'm not going to ask you about ohio. everybody does and i'm not. i want to though about iowa. rasmussen likely voters today. romney 49, obama 48. i don't think the republicans have carried iowa since 1492. can you actually win in iowa? this could be huge. >> i think so. i just -- on a person a note, i was born in colorado springs, i lived in iowa until i was in third grade and spent the rest of my life in the great state of wisconsin. i lived in now 00 third of all the battleground states in america. and each of those states, we saw two weeks ago just outside of denver, new jersey crowds for romney and iowa. the people who appreciate mid western roots. and we're definitely seeing that kind of support building in the
that has this kind of moment numb this kind of an economy and lastly is the right person for the times. have you ever seen a man more uniquely suited for the times than a turnaround guy like mitt romney, where this is essentially what our economy needs. >> you just compared the tepid growth to '80 '81, and we talk about reinhardt and the question we should be comparing this to the great depression. is that a fair comparison? >> there is some legitimacy to the argument. this is what paul krugman likes to talk about every time someone talks about tepid recovery. the reality is -- and whether that's right or wrong, the reality is that when president obama came into office, the one thing that he really didn't do, other than what many would call a failed keynesian stimulus is didn't focus on the economy. here's a quick story julian and i heard at one point from former secretary of state jim baker, who worked for ronald reagan. ronald reagan came into office and baker i believe at that point was his chief of staff, he organized a meeting on foreign policy, and other items. after the meeting,
, women are breaking for mitt romney. the reason is the focus is on jobs and the economy, dealing with the debt and the deficit. i have talked to so many women who say the number one reason that they're voting for mitt romney is $16 trillion in debt. you know that i felt as if president bush and everyone has spent too much money and that the spending has to be dealt with. mitt romney has said that is a day one order for him, to work on getting that spending under control. and i think that because of that, election day you're going to see a romney win. >> marsha blackburn joining us this morning. thank you for joining us. >> good to see you. thank you. >>> coverage of election night in america we start at 6:00 pm eastern time. how about a question? not even a question. >> wow! >> wow! >> i have no power. >> i don't forgive you. ahead on "starting point" troops carrying patients down the stairs after backup power has failed at another new york city hospital. dr. sanjay gupta will join us live with that effort there. what if there was a new way to deal with money that focused less on
. mitt romney is deeply concerned that under the current economy there are 5.5 million struggling to find work. women are suffering under this administration and we simply cannot and will not afford another four years of this economy. i am not a politician. to me, knowing what a good, decent, and intelligent man mitt romney is and know his background, experience, and trustworthiness, just and to be a great leader and an excellent choice -- no, the only choice president of the united states. he is the man i hope and pray will be our next president. he and ann will bring pride, credibility, and compassion back to our nation and make us even prouder to be american citizens. in three sure words, they get. -- they get it. then became high-school sweethearts and somewhere along the way mitt announced soulma tes. they are 18, and we need a team in the white house. our country has become divided, and for real change to begin, which have to come together and begin to work as one. whether that is reaching across the aisle or reaching out to your neighbor, we need to unite as a nation. mitt romney i
